Hi! I’m Melissa
"Art is not about what you see, but what you make others see."
-Edgar Degas
I am an acrylic and mixed media artist from the good ol' Peach State of Georgia. I reside with my wonderful husband and rainbow baby boy in a home that's surrounded by trees and many sources of inspiration for the landscapes, botanicals and colors I love.
Acrylics and oils are what I primarily use in my works, but I love to experiment and use other mediums as well. I especially love color! Color - bright and subtle - can really define the emotion of an art piece and I want my work to move you in a way that's unique to you. If I could tweak Edgar Degas' quote just a tad, I'd say "Art is not about what you feel, but what you make others feel."
My Story
I have loved just about anything creative and expressive ever since I was a little girl. It didn't matter what it was! Singing, drawing, painting, cooking, dancing, theater - I loved it all! Over the years, I experimented more into different techniques and mediums of art, further developing my style until it just clicked! And I haven't stopped since.
Painting has always been a passion of mine. It has been a vital medium to express my joy, my love all of things travel and botanical, my heartaches, and every emotion and feeling in between for many years. For me, art is therapeutic; it's emotional; it's expressive. Throughout the various storms in my life - depression, infertility, complicated family and friend relationships - art has been my go-to source of comfort; a diary of my life in a way.
I am mostly self-taught, but have attended many workshops across Georgia - and even in France! - developing my skills and learning from fabulous instructors and other students. I have had the priviledge of teaching a variety of ages and have greatly enjoyed the expression and creativity in each and every person I interact with.
